Born in Barcelona in 1974, Enrique Lazzaro is a multi-disciplinary and highly prominent artist in the Irish art scene. His creative journey began long before his first exhibition. Guided by his father – a passionate art lover who painted and curated an extensive collection of art books – Lazzaro was immersed in the world of visual expression from early childhood. He honed his skills as a caricaturist under his father’s tutelage, developing a keen eye for observation and composition that would become the foundation of his practice. From flipping through volumes of masterworks as a young boy to perfecting the art of capturing character with economical lines, these formative years shaped his lifelong connection to artistic history.
Next Exhibition 26th March 2026 at Reds Gallery in 21 Dawson Street Dublin, curated by Tony Strickland, “When Gemini Meets the Goat” , traces the fascinating evolution of his artistic language – from early explorations to his latest powerful expressions. The showcase features rare early works inspired by Cézanne’s impressionism, including pieces like Girl with a Doll, where soft, luminous brushwork pays homage to the master’s focus on form and light. Here, influences of Jack B. Yeats’ lyrical connection to place and Picasso’s cubist daring begin to emerge, marking the start of Lazzaro’s distinctive fusion of styles.
Among the highlights is The Wexford Town Bridge, painted entirely from memory following countless regular drives across the structure. This piece draws deep inspiration from Monet’s atmospheric landscape work, with shifting light and fluid brushstrokes capturing the ever-changing mood of the river and sky above the historic bridge. Another standout is When I see my Reflection, inspired by one of Mick Larkin’s Healing poems. In this powerful work, Lazzaro emphasizes the transformative power of growth – exploring how stepping beyond comfort zones, embracing learning, and allowing ourselves to change and expand are essential to our evolution as human beings.
Visitors will journey through his transformative “green period,” where Ireland’s emerald landscapes become canvases for complex human emotion. Bold, dynamic strokes take center stage in his reimagined versions of the Mona Lisa, as he reinterprets one of art history’s icons through his own electrifying lens. Throughout the exhibition, whispers of realism blend seamlessly with raw expressionism – a dialogue that culminates in his latest work, Every Child is an Artist, a powerful testament to authenticity and creative spirit.
Music is inseparable from Lazzaro’s visual art. Since 2005, he has led The Healers Band – one of the longest-running Van Morrison tribute acts – and recently released a new album of 10 original songs inspired by Irish poet Mick Larkin and the soul of Morrison himself. “When I’m in front of a canvas I become jazz,” he says. “I lose myself with no control, never doing the same thing twice. My brushstrokes are like Van Morrison’s voice improvisations – unpredictable.” For Lazzaro, music and painting are two sides of the same coin – all connected in a single creative vision.
As founder of the innovative Flash Art Exhibitions concept and Artteammagazine, he has brought contemporary art to unexpected spaces across Ireland, from community halls to historic buildings, nurturing emerging talent and making art accessible to all.
Lazzaro’s cross-disciplinary background as painter, musician, and cultural pioneer adds rich context to every piece. With works held in prestigious collections across Europe, the UK, and USA, and long-standing partnerships with galleries including Denis Collins Gallery (Wexford), The Gaslamp Gallery (Gorey), and Westgate Gallery (Wexford), he stands as a visionary bridging continents and genres.
